A Film Starring Piolo Pascual Will Be Screened at the Cannes Film Festival

Ang Hupa

We have another local film screening at the Cannes Film Festival, one of the most prestigious film events, and this one is starring Piolo Pascual. The film is Ang Hupa (The Halt) by Lav Diaz, a director who is no stranger to some of the biggest movie festivals in the world.

The film is a finalist for the Directors’ Fortnight, a non-competitive section that programs a selection of films from around the world.

Not much is known about Ang Hupa, except that it co-stars Joel Lamangan, Pinky Amador, and Shaina Magdayao.

Diaz is a critically-acclaimed director whose films have been recognized at the Venice Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Berlinale, and the New York Film Festival. In 2015, his film Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan was screened at the Un Certain Regard section of 2013 Cannes Film Festival and was selected as the Philippines’ entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 87th Academy Awards. His films Ang Babaeng Humayo won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival, while Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis was awarded the Alfred Bauer Silver Bear at the Berlinale. Last year, his film Ang Panahon ng Halimaw premiered at the Berlinale.
