My friends know how I am fascinated with the world of fashion! But they also know how I equally love the environment! Muni PHÂ is an organization that ‘rethinks our actions that heavily impacts the environment’. Just recently, they organized a workshop that focuses on the environment and fashion.
Held at Co.Lab Exchange last March 11 (Monday), Muni PH organized the first Eco-Fashion Workshop that features how sustainable fashion is now emerging as the new ‘in-trend’. Jen Horn, Muni PH’s founder, puts it as “green is the new black”. Jen invited Noreen Bautista of Jacinto & Lirio, Whitney Fleming of Lumago Designs and Reese Fernandez – Ruiz of Rags2Riches.

JACINTO & LIRIO
First to speak was the Director for Marketing and Sales of Jacinto & Lirio, Noreen Bautista. She spoke about the eco-fashion brand that specializes on ‘plant leather’. They derived this kind of leather from the water hyacinth (water lilies) making it waterproof and scratch-proof.Â
Jacinto & Lirio at first made bags using the plant leather which made them the Grand Champion for the Business in Development Challenge in 2009. They studied the use of the leather and is now markets the statement and trendy journals and planners.

Noreen said that “it is easy to be an eco-fashion brand in the Philippines by using [our own] indigenous materials.” Which is what they’re doing now, they’re in the stage of studying the use of Philippine textiles in making their trendy bags. Showing how this kind of fabrics are also worthy of limelight in the fashion scene worldwide.
