Most of us have a 9-5 job, 5 days a week. Some of us may even be working longer hours 7 days a week. So why do we do it? Some do it to support themselves and pay the bills, while others go through it for their families. I will always have a high regard for people who refuse to rest because they need to work for their families, much like Tata Tacio over here.
Jayee Pablo shares his encounter with 80 year old Tata Tacio in Mandaluyong.
“Salute to all elderly and all the parents out there!
His real name is Epitacio Yebra, 80 yrs. Old born on May 21, 1935 address is A. Luna Extension, Bagong Silang, Mandaluyong City. His son is Edgar Yebra residing at A. Rita st., Bgy. Batis, San Juan City.
I don’t know his whole story pero sa edad nya, pinapabilib nya ako. (Sorry, may camera is pretty bad).
Kaya kung makasalubong niyo siya, why not buy an ice cream to help him.
One photo was taken Sunday afternoon and still he is working … Be inspired to help, have a blessed Sunday everyone!”
Rough English Translation:
“Salute to all elderly and all the parents out there!

I see him everyday at Brgy. Sta. Lucia San Juan City, from Monday to Sunday, rain or shine, he sells his ice cream on the streets using a small and old box. He is also often seen in Mandaluyong City selling his ice cream, walking there all the way from San Juan. He doesn’t have SSS or Philhealth. He works to support himself and his family as caused by poverty despite hisย children’s plea for him to stop working.
Respect for Tatay (term used for the elderly, meaning father) whoever he is. I also do not have much so the best way I can help him is by buying his ice cream.ย
I don’t know his whole story but with his age, he really left me in awe (Sorry, my camera is pretty bad).
So if you run into him, buy some ice cream and help him out.
One photo was taken Sunday afternoon and still he is working … Be inspired to help, have a blessed Sunday everyone!”
It’s sad to know that at his age, Mang Tacio still feels he needs to work that hard just to support his family. On the other hand, we salute this man for his dedication and hard work.ย Hats off to you Sir!
If this story touched your heart, make sure you pass by San Juan/ Mandaluyong and buy an ice cream or two to help Mang Tacio in one way or another.
