Looks like 6’9″ Filipino-Australian Ethan Kirkness will join Batang Gilas pool for a month-long training before the year end. This might be in December when he spends a long vacation in the Philippines.
According to spin.ph, Batang Gilas team manager Andrew Teh who is currently in Australia said, “We’re planning to bring him to Manila for a five-week training camp this December, by which time mahaba ‘yung vacation niya from school.”
Teh is in Australia to watch Kirkness train with ex-National Basketball League (NBL) player Greg Fox.
Teh added, “He definitely improved a lot compared to before. But siyempre, medyo raw pa yung bata. He’s still 14 years old, although the potential is really there.”
While there, Teh gave Kirkness his No. 51 Batang Gilas jersey.
Kirkness’ parents are working on his FIBA accreditation so he can join the Batang Gilas U-16 team. His father is Australian and his mother is Filipina.
If this pushes through, Kirkness will join Kai Sotto and 6’9″ Fil-Nigerian AJ Edu.
What do you think of Kirkness joining Batang Gilas?
