We Filipinos are known for our four-month long celebration of Christmas, starting in September. Resorts World Manila is taking that tradition by bringing the merry holiday spirit with the annual Grand Fiesta Manila, their month-long celebration filled with exciting activities for friends, families, and kids!
Resorts World Manila kicked off the festivities with the Christmas tree-lighting at the Plaza, followed by a shower of confetti that made even the most jaded person feel the holiday cheer.
We got the lowdown on what to expect this year, and why you should make Resorts World Manila a part of your Christmas 2016:
6. Hi-5 Fairytale
Kids will enjoy the hi 5 Fairy Tale, a theatrical extravaganza where the cast of the popular show Hi-5 will educate children through colorful, easy-to-follow music, dance, and play using fairy tales. There will be knights, princesses, dragons, dinosaurs, and pirates, so catch this show if you have tiny tots.
Hi-5 Fairytale will be staged at the Newport Performing Arts Theater on December 16 (2:30 PM and 6 PM), December 17 (11 AM, 2:30 PM, and 6 PM), and December 18 (2:30 PM and 6 PM).
5. Pinoy Ultimate Jeepneys
One of the popular events during the Grand Fiesta Manila is the Pinoy Ultimate Jeepneys competition, where colleges and universities will compete by designing jeepneys. The competition hopes to revive the declining art of jeepney art, which adds color to our roads every day. It also aims to celebrate our heritage and improve drivers’ livelihood by making their jeepneys more attractive.
4. Free concerts on Christmas day!
For those who want to add music to their holidays, visit Resorts World Manila on December 25 for free concerts! There’s still no word who will be performing, but Resorts World Manila promises the “hottest acts in the music scene.” Best to celebrate Christmas here and catch a show.
3. Annie the Musical
Resorts World Manila has produced great theater, and their latest offering is Annie, a Tony Award-winning musical based on the Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie. It tells the story a young orphan girl who is adopted by a New York mayoral candidate. It’s a hard knock life but with a little positivity, we can dream of a better tomorrow.
Annie is extended until December 11, and is staged at the Newport Performing Arts Theater with shows at 8 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.
2. Air Supply live in Manila
We’re a country of hopeless romantics, so it comes to no surprise that we’re fans of Air Supply’s love songs. Whether you like “All Out of Love,” “Two Less Lonely People in the World,” or “Making Love Out of Nothing at All,” you should catch the band, composed of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock, when they come here to perform live.
Air Supply will perform in Manila on December 8, 8 PM, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
1. Grand Countdown to 2017
Of course, the highlight of the holiday celebration is the countdown to the next year. On December 31, ring in 2017 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom for a magical party. Resorts World Manila has invited international magicians, dancers and acrobats, and top Filipino bands. Leading the celebration are host Jon Santos, and singers Bamboo and Lea Salonga.
The Grand Countdown to 2017 will be a closed dinner party so make sure to book your seats by visiting www.rwmanila.com or www.ticketworld.com.ph!
