World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) has opened applications for its 5th Emerging Leaders Conference (ELC) this coming October 20 to 22, 2016 at the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) in Pasig City, Philippines.

The 5th WYAAP ELC puts the spotlight on environment and technology with the theme, Upgrading Earth: Maximizing Technology and Innovation for People and Planet.  The conference aims to provide youth delegates from Asia Pacific countries with relevant information on the status of our environment, and insights on how to respond to the challenges we face with innovation and responsible use of technology.

In an era of continuous technological discovery and advancement, WYAAP believes that the youth must empower one another in sparking social and environmental progress through innovation.

The ELC will consist of a series of talks and panel discussions from some of the region’s renowned innovators, educators, leaders, and youth advocates. To complement plenary discussions, delegates will also have the opportunity to interact with fellow delegates through breakout sessions, workshops, and group activities. These pocket plenaries will allow delegates to explore more specific topics of their interest, and to boost interaction and collaboration with fellow delegates.

The plenaries and workshops will cover a wide array of topics, including innovating for social good, drafting earth-friendly policies, making art for the environment, and learning the ropes of effective campaign-building. Participants can also expect panel discussions from multiple speakers about starting “green businesses,” and building smart cities.

In celebration of the fifth year of the WYAAP ELC, WYAAP has also launched the ELC Essay Writing Competition, wherein 20 chosen applicants will receive a special discount on their registration fee, and the top three winners will be asked to present their essays as part of the conference program. Conference applicants who wish the join the competition must submit their completed application form by August 19, Friday. All other applications are accepted until August 31, Wednesday.

The regular conference fee for delegates is PhP 4,300 for all three days of the ELC. ELC Writing Competition winners will only need to pay a PhP 3,900 conference fee. The conference is open primarily to Asia Pacific youth from the ages of 15 to 30 years old. Non-World Youth Alliance members are welcome to apply.
