Like many others, I sometimes have a really hard time managing my time. With the busy demands of school and work, I sometimes forget to relax and do things that I enjoy. Because of how hectic life can be, there are times when I even forget to take care of myself.

Last April 21, I joined BDJ Rendezvous: Women in Power. For many years, Belle de Jour Power Planner has been helping women everywhere become more productive by finding the perfect balance between work and play. The BDJ Rendezvous united women from all walks of life in an afternoon filled with inspiring talks and group activities. The event stressed the importance of living a healthy life while still being productive.

Each of the speakers gave us tips on how to live a well balanced life. In no specific order, here are 5 things I learned on what it means to be a true “Woman in Power.”

5 Tips on How to Live a Well Balanced Life While Still Being Productive

5. Find a Way to De-Stress.

Many of us spend less time doing the things we love in favor of school- and work-related commitments. However, focusing solely on work may be bad for your stress levels and your physical health. With the workshops they offered in calligraphy and smartphone photography, the BDJ Rendezvous gave attendees the opportunity to try their hand in a new hobby. The best part about picking up a new hobby like photography or calligraphy is that they won’t just help you de-stress; they also help you become more productive during the art-making process.

4. Love Yourself.

Many of us are guilty of neglecting our bodies because of the demands of our busy lives. As health communications specialist Patricia Mirasol said in her talk, though, the best way to love your body is to take good care of it. Living a well-balanced life means being more active while changing the way you think. Although having the right mindset is critical in helping you achieve your goals, being able to forgive yourself when things don’t go according to plan is equally important.

3. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others.

We oftentimes try to measure our worth by comparing ourselves to others. This will only make you feel bad and inferior, though. In her talk, calligrapher Nicole Sanchez told us to use others as an inspiration instead of comparing ourselves to them. See, the only person you can really compare yourself with is yourself. As such, you have to constantly challenge yourself to improve and grow.

2. Seek Out New Things.

In order to gain new experiences, you need to be open to new things. When life becomes boring, you’ll find yourself stuck in a rut with nowhere to go. Stepping out of your comfort zone is the first step to living a full life. As photographer and makeup artist Gorvachev “Gorva” Bernardo said during his smartphone photography workshop, in order to grow and learn, we must not be afraid to seek new things and experiences.

1. Don’t Do Everything Alone.

Businesswoman and fitness enthusiast Carla Piscoso shared that being fit isn’t just limited to the physical aspect, but also in the mental, spiritual, and emotional aspects. Being fit is about overcoming something you initially thought you couldn’t overcome. No matter how big the challenge is, it is important to remember not to go through it alone. Life really is about helping and cheering each other on – and that is exactly what the BDJ Rendezvous: Women in Power event was about: women coming together and motivating each other.
