The first weekend of Globe Telecom’s production of American Idiot by 9 Works Theatrical has just come to an end and all of the reviews I have heard so far have been nothing but positive. I had been waiting for this since the media press con when I heard about the new Iconic Store and the epic outdoor theatre that would come with it.
Well, on Friday, I was finally able to experience the magic in person and I must say: it definitely did not disappoint. Here are 5 reasons why I believe you need to see American Idiot during its run:

5. This is Globe’s first theatre production.
And who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? While Globe has sponsored various events, concerts and shows in the past, they have never produced one. Yes, people. This is a first! Do not miss it!
4. The cast is absolutely superb.
I thought these guys were great during the press con, but nothing prepared me for their electric performances onstage on Friday night. Everyone brought their A-game and made people whoop and cheer. Their energy was astounding and their love for theatre and music definitely shown through during their performance. Check out this quick snippet of “When September Ends”:
If you are a Green Day fan or simply heard their songs as the years went by, you will love going down memory lane hearing each song and seeing how they use each one in the musical. This is an absolute delight, especially for those who love Green Day, but actually don’t have any idea what American Idiot (the musical) is about just yet.
2. The themes are all relatable.
Regardless of what stage of life you may be in at the moment, you are sure to find a relatable theme in the musical. Even if you don’t, though, there will be scenes in there that will make you think back on certain parts of your life – I practically guarantee it. And that, I believe, is something that makes musicals special in people’s hearts.
1. The outdoor theatre is a sight to behold.
I have to admit: I couldn’t wait to see the outdoor theatre – and it definitely did not disappoint. They made use of the space in such a great way, creating a truly interactive and experiential open door performance that even passers-by can enjoy, albeit from afar. Even if you don’t get tickets to the show, you can enjoy this amazing experience for the next two weekends. (Of course, we’d highly recommend getting seats, though, for a comfier experience and a better view! )
