5 Reasons Why I Binge-Watched Mr Robot on iflix Over the Weekend

A new show is in town (well, on iflix, anyway) and I am obsessed with it! It’s called Mr. Robot and while the title probably puts images of droids in your head, it is nothing like that at all. I had already heard a lot about Mr. Robot from my sister and other friends in the U.S. and was waiting for it to reach Philippine shores.

As convincing as their raves about the show were, though, I didn’t truly understand what they meant until I got hooked onto the show myself. In fact, I got so hooked, I binge-watched all 10 episodes of the first season on iflix over the weekend. Yes, guys. Mr. Robot is exclusively available on iflix for the first time in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. Get. On. It. Need more convincing? Read on.

5 Reasons Why I Binge-Watched Mr Robot on iflix Over the Weekend

5. Everyone is talking about it.

As mentioned earlier, my sister and my friends in the U.S. had been telling me to watch Mr. Robot for a while now. All I could tell them was, “Sorry, never heard of it.” Apparently, though, it was so good that my sister felt the need to send me the trailer (which you can watch at the bottom of this article) and mention that Rotten Tomatoes gave it a rating of 98% – which is higher than the rating that they gave Game of Thrones (94%). Now, that definitely intrigued me.

4. The first episode made me want to watch more.

I attended the preview of Mr. Robot on iflix at an iflix event a few days ago and we got to watch the first episode of Mr. Robot before anyone else in the country! I ended up liking it so much, I found myself live-tweeting quotes from the first episode while watching and then hoping that they would let us stay at the venue and finish watching the season. They didn’t, though, so I did the next best thing and slept early just so I could wake up bright and early the next day to start watching the first season from beginning to end.

3. The cliffhangers are intense.

You know a show is good when you say, “Okay, just one episode before bed.” And then it turns into “Okay, just one more episode.” And then the sun starts to shine outside and you still don’t care because the cliffhangers are intense. If you decide to binge-watch Mr. Robot on iflix during the week (aka when you have school or work the next day and actually really need to rest or you’ll regret it in the morning), I would highly recommend watching an episode for 10 minutes and then pausing it there. It is virtually impossible to finish an episode of Mr. Robot and not want to watch the next one straight away.

2. It’s a total mind-thrill laced with hints of Trainspotting and Fight Club.

If you are a fan of movies like Trainspotting and/or Fight Club, you will love this show. Mr. Robot basically revolves around the life of Elliot (Rami Malek), who is a young computer programmer working as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night. All sorts of things happen along the way, though. There are drugs, conspiracy theories, violence, tech talk, and even a bit of S&M. Seriously, it’s really good. And it will get your mind reeling.

1. Rami Malek is mesmerizing.

I think the main thing that makes the show so great, though, is Rami Malek himself. I find him absolutely mesmerizing and his look and his voice fit his role so well, it hurts. A show’s cast can make or break a show, in my opinion, and the cast of Mr. Robot is a total revelation. I cannot wait for more people to watch this, so I can talk about it more. If you’ve seen it, feel free to tweet me about it on @the_lil_miss 😀
