5 Reasons Why ‘Fantastic Beasts’ May Be Better Than the Old Harry Potter Movies

It has been five years since the last Harry Potter movie hit the big screen and as a massive Potterhead who grew up with both the books and the movies, I couldn’t wait for ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ to come out.

Thanks to PMCM Management and Resorts World Manila, we had a special block screening of the movie the other night. And while I knew it would be good, but I didn’t really expect it to be as AMAZING as it ended up to be. In fact, it may even be better than the old Harry Potter movies. Here’s why:

5 Reasons Why ‘Fantastic Beasts’ May Be Better Than the Old Harry Potter Movies

5. The special effects are way better now than they were before.

While the old school effects of the old Harry Potter movies will always be quaint and will always feel nostalgic, no matter how many times you watch them (I’m mostly talking about the first two movies here – the effects there weren’t exactly mind-blowing); experiencing the Wizarding World in today’s day and age and with today’s technology is something on a whole different level. On that note, because of this…

4. It feels more magical.

The beasts look fantastic, the views are stunning, and every magic spell said and done looks so unbelievably good, it’s like you’re experiencing all of J.K. Rowling’s magic for the first time all over again.

3. It has a darker feel overall.

‘Fantastic Beasts’ is not for kids – at least I don’t think so. And that’s just the way I like it. I loved when the old Harry Potter movies transitioned into a darker place, and that’s the same feeling that we get from ‘Fantastic Beasts’. While it is funny and light at parts, it is also dark and violent at times. In fact, there were moments where I actually got goosebumps. This makes it perfect for the people who grew up with Harry Potter and are no longer real children, so to speak.

2. The twists are unexpected.

I gotta admit: I didn’t put too much thought into the entire movie and just enjoyed it for what it is and I gotta say that I didn’t expect a lot of the twists there. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but suffice it to say: I gasped and “Oh!”-ed a lot.

1. The cast is impeccable.

Most importantly, the cast of ‘Fantastic Beasts’ is downright flawless. While the kids in the old Harry Potter movies were great, it still took me a while to really warm up to some of the members of the cast. This wasn’t their fault, though. The majority of them having been kids and not having had a lot of professional experience in the acting world before the Harry Potter movies, this was expected.

This time, however, we’ve got the awkward yet unbelievably charming Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne at the helm and he has got the most believable group of actors by his side. I especially loved Alison Sudol as Queenie, and Ezra Miller as Credence was an absolute revelation.

I would definitely watch this in the cinemas again if given the chance – possibly even more than one more time! 😀 What about you? What did you think of ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’? Share your thoughts with us! 🙂
