When I heard that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony was coming back to Manila, all my bones went Krayzie and I knew that I couldn’t let this opportunity pass.

I’ve been a fan of hip hop ever since I heard my elementary classmates jamming to Tha Crossroads. I got so hooked up with the sound of it that I was singing “See you at the crossroads, crossroads, crossroads” the entire time going home. At that time, I didn’t even know what the title of that song was. Bone Thugs basically made me love hip hop.

5 Reasons Why Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Made Me Love Hip Hop

5. I was amazed by how they expressed themselves through rap.

Back when I was in elementary school, boy band music filled the airwaves. It was uncommon for hip hop to be played on the radio. So when I first heard Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s Tha Crossroads, it opened up a whole new world of music for me.

4. They proved to the world that hip hop is timeless.

The Mall of Asia Arena felt like a time machine when they performed. Listening to them took me back to my childhood days as if it were yesterday. Comparing how they sounded then to how they sound now, they’re still great. They proved to the world that hip hop is timeless and dynamic.

3. They never forget their roots.

This might sound cliché, but they never forget to pay tribute to their roots, performing songs from some of the hip hop industry’s biggest names.

This leads me to number 2…

2. Hip hop is brotherhood.

They always pay tribute to their fallen brothers. When they sang Eazy-E’s Boyz-n-the-hood, 2pac’s California Love, and Notorious B.I.G.’s Juicy, it was like an ultimate hip hop throwback. Let’s not forget their song Tha Crossroads, which they purposely wrote and sang for everyone they had lost.

1. Hip hop is not only a genre, but a culture.

Some say hip hop is just a genre of music; but for me, it’s more than that. It’s a culture, a way of life, bringing together and building a community of people with the same interests.
