25 Years of Jaya: 7 Highlights from the Queen of Soul’s Celebration of Memories

4. Ms. Jaya showed her comedic side with her hilarious expressions.

The audience laughed every now and then throughout the entire show as the Queen of Soul continuously showed her side of comedy. She pinpointed some of her celebrity guests and friends and talked them as if we were all just at a house party. There was even a moment when she adjusted her bra on-stage! Hahahaha!

Also, she would often do these funny facial expressions while singing, which I think may have been part of a technique to help her sing more effectively.

3. She made us stand up in awe when she sang her OPM hits and Whitney Houston covers.

It’s been a personal ‘dream’ of mine to watch Ms. Jaya sing her 90’s hits “Laging Naron Ka” and “Wala na bang Pag-Ibig” live. Well, I finally had a chance to do it in this concert!! The moment she uttered the words “Kung alam ko lamang, ako’y iyong iiwan….” and “Makakaya ko ba“, I knew that she would be singing these songs, and they got me IMMENSELY excited hahaha. Many fans in the room also shouted (in an orgasmic kind of way) as they were equally thrilled to hear Jaya herself sing them!

Aside from her own OPM hits, she sang many more covers. I especially liked the series of Whitney Houston songs as Ms. Jaya was truly able to showcase her vibrato with all the high pitches of Whitney’s hits. Everyone couldn’t help but clap hard to every standing ovation-worthy performance of Ms. Jaya that night (and there were a lot!).

2. Ms. Jaya had her own touching personal celebration of family memories.

The Queen of Soul is married to Mr. Gary Gotidoc, and they currently have two wonderful children named Sabriya and Dylan. She had a sequence of songs specially dedicated to them. 🙂 Prior to this sequence, she also shared about her most recent emotional struggle, which was the unfortunate passing of their supposed third child. It was really an emotional moment for everyone in the audience as Ms. Jaya teared up on stage while telling her story. Sh held the tears back as soon as possible, though, so she could perform well. I saw how truly professional she is as she stayed strong amidst the sadness and the busy schedule she’s been having.

1. When SOP’s infamous ‘Back 2 Back 2 Back’ foursome reunited!

“Back 2 Back 2 Back” was once a popular segment at GMA’s weekly Sunday concert show, SOP (now Sunday All-Stars). This segment grouped together four of OPM’s greatest balladeers and songstresses in Mr. Ogie Alcasid, Mr. Janno Gibbs, Ms. Regine Velasquez- Alcasid, and Ms. Jaya Ramsey-Gotidoc. February 2010 was the last time the four of them officially performed together in one stage, and what an exciting moment it was to see them reunite for the first time again at Jaya’s concert!

jaya_solaire_anniversary_11All cameras were ready as soon as Mr. Ogie Alcasid appeared on stage as everyone knew Janno Gibbs and Regine Velasquez would be next 😮

“WAAAAHHHHHH Ayan na beh!! Ayan na beh!!”– what my seatmate said to his friend when Ogie appeared HAHAHA

jaya_solaire_anniversary_13Ogie surprisingly appeared first on-stage singing “Nandito Ako”, followed by Janno Gibbs with “Ipagpatawad Mo”, and punctuated by Regine’s “Dadalhin” to complete the foursome reunion

jaya_solaire_anniversary_14The three also each had their own duets with Jaya

jaya_solaire_anniversary_16Oh, what a nice day to live…. 🙂
