21 #NoFilter Shots From Past Pahiyas Festivals

Pahiyas Festival is just around the corner.

This colorful feast is a celebration of thanksgiving by farmers for having a bountiful harvest. It is celebrated annually every May 15. The celebration involves grand display of colorful rice wafers (“kiping”), fruits, vegetables, and handicrafts adorning every house in the town of Lucban, Quezon.

The highlight of Pahiyas Festival is the procession along the streets of the image of San Isidro Labrador, to guarantee a bountiful harvest in the coming seasons. The festival culminates with generous sharing of food among the townspeople.

Pahiyas came from the Filipino term “hiyas,” which means jewel, while Pahiyas means precious offering.
