Attention, Delegates!

The Asian Studies Society (ASSOC) of the University of Santo Tomas is organizing the annual UST Model ASEAN Meeting on January 22-24, 2018. Now on its fourth year, the conference will gather around 100 delegates from the Thomasian Community as well as from other colleges and universities inside and outside the country. This year’s UST Model ASEAN Meeting will feature 3 councils: Socio-Cultural Council, Political-Security Council and Economic Council. In line with the theme “Forging an ASEAN Identity: The Challenge to Unite Diversity Towards a Regional Identity,” pressing regional issues are to be discussed by the delegates. These include Promoting Civic Consciousness and Cultural Protection within ASEAN for the Socio-Cultural Council, Ensuring Maritime Security Cooperation for the Political-Security Council, and Enhancing Skilled Labor Mobility Facilities within ASEAN for the Economic Council.

The USTMAM 2018, as well as other Model ASEAN Meeting, is a one of a kind educational simulation of the ASEAN proceedings. For the two-day committee sessions, the delegates will have the opportunity to be diplomats of respective countries as they try to discuss with other delegates to forge resolutions on pressing topics relevant to other councils in the Model ASEAN Meeting simulation. After participating in the conference, the delegates will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills on research and public speaking, as well as skills specific to ASEAN and International Relations and Diplomacy in general.
