‘2 Botts’ a Day May Be Worse for Your Health Than Binge-Drinking

If you thought occasional binge-drinking is bad; it turns out that just having ‘2 botts’ (or 2 bottles of beer) a day could be worse for your heart than drinking a lot of alcohol at once.

Research done by scientists from Korea University focused on the drinking habits of over nine million people in eight years and found that the people who drank everyday were 41% more likely to develop atrial fibrillation, which causes the heart to beat unusually fast. This could potentially lead to blood clots and raise the risk of stroke. On the other hand, there was no connection found between binge-drinking and atrial fibrillation.

The scientists say that drinking 2 botts everyday – or any kind of alcohol on a daily basis, for that matter – could make the damaging effects of alcohol build up over time.

To protect yourself from this, Dr. Choi Jong-il suggests drinking less often (read: stop having a night cap after work everyday). “To prevent new-onset AF, both the frequency and weekly amount of alcohol consumption should be reduced,” he says.

According to a 2013 study, the number of people with atrial fibrillation in 2010 was estimated at 33.5 million with excessive alcohol consumption recognized as a real risk factor.

So, ano? Magtu-two botts pa ba?
