In 2014, Makati and Pasig City claimed the title “Selfie Capital of the World” from TIME Magazine. According to their extensive analysis, the most number of selfies were taken from these cities. With 258 selfie-takers per 100,000 people at the time, they ruled over second placer Manhattan, New York, followed by Miami (Fla.), Anaheim and Sta. Ana (CA), and Petaling Jaya (MYS) respectively.
But really, even without stating facts, who would’ve doubted that Filipinos would be top one? In our country, people are taking selfies everywhere and at any time of the day. Seeing someone suddenly raise their phone to take a selfie isn’t that unusual anymore. It has even become like a ritual before doing anything else, and I suppose anyone from around the world can relate.
Besides selfies, what Filipinos also enjoy doing and got lots of time for are being creative and funny. All these three combined is the birth of these funny “Selfie muna bago…” posts which are now all over the internet. Here are some of our favorites!
