14 #Hugot Songs That Will Make You #Stronger This Valentine’s

6. “Strong Enough,” Cher (Believe, 1998)

Perhaps one of the most famous breakup songs, “Strong Enough” is an empowering anthem for those who just broke up because of the danceable beat and the lyrics, “‘Cause I’m strong enough / To live without you / Strong enough and I quit crying / Long enough, now I’m strong enough / To know you gotta go.” If there’s one breakup song that will make you want to go out clubbing, it would have to be Cher’s “Strong Enough.”

7. “You’re So Vain,” Carly Simon (No Secrets, 1972)

We all know someone who’s so vain that they would “walk into the party like you were walking onto a yacht / Your hat strategically dipped below one eye.” We’ve all dated that one person, and it’s so satisfying to post this song on our social media and torture them into wondering if the post is about them. It’s ultimate shade.

8. “You Don’t Own Me,” Lesley Gore (Lesley Gore Sings of Mixed-Up Hearts, 1963)

“You Don’t Own Me” is a song way ahead of its time. In 1963, 17 year old Lesley Gore sang, “And don’t tell me what to do / And don’t tell me what to say / And please, when I go out with you / Don’t put me on display, ’cause / You don’t own me, don’t try to change me in any way / You don’t own me, don’t tie me down ’cause I’d never stay.” It’s an incredibly defiant number at a time when women played second fiddle to men. Sadly, it still applies today, so this song can still be sung with the same rebellious spirit 53 years on.

9. “I’m Not Missing You,” Stacie Orrico (Beautiful Awakening, 2006)

It’s a shame that Stacie Orrico fell off the radar because she made some really good songs, “I’m Not Missing You” included. She captures the moment when you realize you’ve moved on: “I know I’m usually hanging on / I used to hate to see you gone / But this time its different / I don’t even feel the distance / I’m not missing, I’m not missing you.” The song makes you feel so good that it makes you wonder why you fell in love in the first place.

10. “Fighter,” Christina Aguilera (Stripped, 2002)

“Fighter” is unique because unlike the other songs on this list, Aguilera is thanking the man who broke her heart. Why? “‘Cause if it wasn’t for all of your torture / I wouldn’t know how to be this way now and never back down / So I wanna say thank you ’cause it / Makes me that much stronger / Makes me work a little bit harder / It makes me that much wiser / So thanks for making me a fighter.” And when you pair that with Aguilera’s strong vocal prowess, you believe that she is a fighter.
