10 Things I Loved about Devcon 2015

3. The People – Community

3-1

Devcon is a great way to meet new people. It’s a venue to network. You can talk to other professionals about the current tech trends, their businesses, processes, etc. A lot of students were there, as well, which tells me that the IT industry in the Philippines looks bright.

Being a Computer Science major, it was also a great opportunity to see my previous professors, classmates, friends and colleagues.3-5

Got to catch up with my previous professors, classmates and office colleagues. 🙂

Devcon really lives up to its name, Developers Connect. It connects developers to other developers and creates a great community.

2. The Theme – Advocacy

2-1

This year’s theme was #GoOpenSourcePh. Open Source means that a code is available online and people can use it or help out to make it better. Open sourcing embraces the spirit of collaborating.

Open sourcing helps out a lot of developers. It gives them access to a lot of libraries to hasten development. You don’t need to start from scratch thanks to open sourcing. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel thanks to open sourcing.

It also gives you the ability to help out other developers. You can make improvements in the code, fix bugs and add features.

Best of all, open source is free. You can make a ton of money because of the help of an open source library. But hey, don’t forget to give back (or pay forward) if you make it big.

1. The Organizers and Volunteers

1-1

You guys ROCK! I can’t imagine how hard it is to manage such an event with this scale. But good thing, you had a great team of great volunteers. You may not be paid but you still did all the work to make this Conference happen. Most of you have jobs or studies but found time to help, for that I salute you!
