10 Things I Loved about Devcon 2015

6) The Partners and Sponsors

6-1

Devcon would not be successful without the help of the sponsors and I believe the sponsors got a great return on their investments. Because the venue was a lot bigger, partners had a bigger space to interact with the participants. There were a lot of freebies, too, so participants kept lining up at the booths. I particularly loved the coffee from the different booths.

There were also booths that let you try out their tech. I tried out a VR horror game using a Google Cardboard and a smartphone.

6-5There were also games in different booths. There were raffles and quiz games. There was also a PC game where a spaceship shoots at enemy mechs (which I failed to finish). I also busted a groove playing Dance Central on an Xbox.

Other than just fun, the partners extended a helping hand for students and developers to make a career. There’s a partner to help you out if you want to be a web developer, UI/UX designer, game developer, mobile developer or anything under the IT spectrum.

5. The Resource Speakers

5-1

This is one of the best things about Devcon. Having a great network to be tapped, Devcon has a vast pool of talented and established IT professionals. This year’s Devcon has a number of topics liks: User Experience, Mobile Development, Web Development, Game Development, Internet of Things,  Big Data, Cloud Computing, and DevOps.

I particularly love listening to panel discussions because different professionals give accounts on their experiences. It’s good having them tell you what to do, what to avoid and much more. It gives developers a greater edge to succeed in the industry.

Also, this year’s Devcon had a bigger venue to accommodate simultaneous speakers in different locations. I had difficulties at first because it was hard to weigh out which talk I would listen to (How I wished I learned Naruto’s Kage Bunshin no Jutsu). A friend of mine made a schedule when to switch rooms. But in the end, it’s a good exercise to be able to choose a talk because it lets you decide which part of IT you want to focus and improve on.

Just look at how many speakers they had. So many speakers, so few of me…

4) The Prizes

4-1

There were a ton of prizes! From pens, notebooks and shirts to vacations, smartphones, tablets and even a laptop.

4-2

They even made plushies of Devcon’s mascot, Qwerty, to give out as prizes!

May the source be with you also, Qwerty!

Congratulations to the winners!
