Why Should You Watch Madonna in Manila Here are 10 Reasons Why

5. She sang ‘Crazy For You’

Come on, if there’s any reason for Filipinos to watch Madonna in Manila, it would be that she sang “Crazy For You,” one of our favorite videoke songs. And what better way to hear it than to hear the original singer sing it live? Bring on the feels!

4. She probably won’t sing it here, but she will sing…

Chances are low that she will sing “Crazy For You” (the last time she sang this was in 2004’s Re-Invention Tour), but she will sing other classic songs we listened to growing up. According to a rumored setlist that is floating around the Internet, she will perform classics like “Holiday,” “Like a Virgin,” “Vogue,” and “Like a Prayer,” on top of the songs on her Rebel Heart album.

3. This the first time she’s visiting Manila in her 36 year career

Since Madonna started touring in 1985, she has not visited Manila. We can’t tell if she hasn’t visited Manila because of a low fanbase or a high booking fee, but it’s about time she has visited us. Many have said that she’s too old or too irrelevant, but tickets to her concert in Manila being sold out before the actual sale and an extra night proves otherwise. So if you do watch Rebel Heart in Manila, what can you expect to see?

2. Her concerts are spectacles

A spectacle. That’s what you can see. Sure, spectacle is a standard in pop diva concerts these days, but Madonna’s concerts are a combination of showmanship and drama. Her controversies began in 1990 when she simulated masturbation when she sang “Like a Virgin” at the Blond Ambition Tour, followed by 1993’s The Girlie Show Tour‘s sex circus theme.

She’s known for her grand entrances, like when she entered doing a headstand during the Re-Invention Tour and the time she emerged from a $4 million disco ball in the Confessions Tour (she later emerged hanging from a mirrored cross and a crown of thorns). Her last tour, the MDNA Tour, was controversial for its themes of violence, firearms, human rights, nudity, and politics, but it was critically praised, with one writer saying that “she dominates even after 30 years on stage.” Our only hint for the Rebel Heart Tour is the pole-dancing nuns, but it’s sure to push boundaries for conservative Philippines. And we can’t wait for it.

1. She’s the Queen of Pop

Madonna is known as the best-selling female recording artist of all time (Guinness World Records) and the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century (Recording Industry Association of America). Billboard ranked her second on the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists, second only to the Beatles, making her the most successful solo artist in the history of American singles chart. She is also the top-touring female artist of all-time. If you think she’s a has-been and pales in comparison to the pop stars of today, it’s important to remember that these pop stars won’t be able to do these things without Madonna. If they’re blazing the trail for women in pop, Madonna made the trail. It’s a material world and we’re all just living in it. Aren’t you wondering why Madonna hasn’t been replaced as the Queen of Pop?
