covid 19 coronavirus

Oriental Mindoro reported its first positive case of the new coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). Governor Humerlito “Bonz” said on Friday that the first COVID-19 patient in the province is a one-year-old girl.

The governor detailed that the swabs taken from the child were one of the eight samples sent to the Department of Health for testing and processing. The swabs came from Barangay Ilaya in Calapan City.

The 21-month-old girl has been staying in Alabang, Muntinlupa from March 5-12 before she was brought to Oriental Mindoro.

Due to this, her guardians have been tested for the coronavirus as well and contact tracing is being carried out by the provincial and city health office. Dolor said he made a request to the DOH to do a confirmatory test on the child’s swabs.

Oriental Mindoro, a province in southwestern Luzon, is part of the month-long enhanced community quarantine imposed by President Rodrigo Duterte to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
