This P73-million face mask is just so extra— here’s why

With the pandemic still going strong, face masks have soon become both a necessity and a fashion statement. Many brands have produced their own versions — made from Neoprene, cotton, silk, and even local woven textiles, among others. Among the selection, of course, are a few quirky (and expensive!) ones. Take this face mask that’s made of actual gold, for example.

But just when you thought you’ve seen it all, we hear about this whopping $ 1,500,000  (PHP 73,357,500 with current exchange rates) face mask, and it’s on another level.

According to High Snobiety, a US-based businessman (whose name was not disclosed) commissioned an Israeli luxury jewelry brand called Yvel to take on this grandiose project. The face mask in question is an N99 mask, and it will be made of 18-karat white gold.

But wait, there’s more. According to the designer Issac Levy, the mask will be studded with 3,600 white and black diamonds and will be fitted with top-rated N99 filters at the buyer’s request.

Levy adds that the buyer has two other demands: one, that it will be ready by the end of the year, and that it would be the most expensive mask in the world. While no promises have been made for the former, the latter “was the easiest to fulfill.”

Shine bright like a diamond, indeed.
