“Your Inner Voice” Hosting Workshop

“If everyone became a host, there would be no audience.”

When in Manila, the culture is event-centric. Manila loves events and the nightlife. There are tons you can pass by or go to.

Events, especially in Metro Manila, are used to send a message depending on the objective, and with this, you need someone credible who can do this properly. This is where professional hosts come in.

Hosting and public speaking is a skill that not everyone has. People may have the talent for it, but this talent needs to be refined just like anything else. Talent is natural and innate in an individual whereas skills are acquired from training, drills and continuous development. Bottomline, this is not something that everyone can do.

Have you ever had that experience stepping into an event and you know that the person holding the mic is either the producer of the event or was just appointed, for the lack of time or perhaps, budget to afford someone who can do it? You may come to let this pass but there will be crucial moments when this is not enough. There will always be that one jolly-talkative person in the office who will be appointed to host a gathering and although you might know that person, at the back of your head, you also know that there could be someone who can to do this better.

Think about that for a moment.

Doctors, engineers, architects, are among a few who undergo serious learning to prepare themselves for crucial moments for society to function properly. It’s all about experience, credentials, and network. People will not just allow any doctor to do surgery or a business owner would not just hire any engineer to finish their projects for them. You need to carefully research and check their background. Then why should hosting be any different? If you were a brand that needs to send a message to your consumers, would you just let your subordinate’s cousin speak for you? You want someone dignified, someone who you can relate to or someone who has influence over people who can speak for what you stand for. So where do you get this credential? There aren’t many facilities where you can learn this from. They say experience is the best teacher, but how can you get that experience if people won’t hire you to begin with?

“Your Inner Voice” was created for the sole purpose of educating the public about the value of hosts, the masters of ceremonies. It’s a 2-day workshop that immerses the participants in self-learning activities and drills to realize their full (innate) potential. Educate in Latin is – “educare,” which means to train or to mold, and “educere,” meaning to lead out. Become educated on what you need to discover your best self yet. Sit in a workshop to validate what you already know and be directed to the right path to hone your skill properly. Learn how to verbalize and express your thoughts, and literally speak it better than imagined. You’ll also find 2 important aspects of hosting – speech and image building, because knowing how to host is basically not enough. Why just learn to host when you can get more by being the total package?

When in Manila Your Inner Voice

This workshop is created by Martin de Vera also known as “Moxx” in the hosting industry, through his journey from being a corporate slave to becoming a radio DJ and now a professional host and voice talent. His failures will inspire you to succeed as he shares the steps he took in becoming a well-rounded talent. As he would say, “I am not the best host. There are tons of others better than I am, but I have the heart to share my knowledge and experience and guide the new generation how to do it properly as I have learned from the best (his own failures).”

This workshop is also powered by La Unica Events, BlackBox Media Ph (recording studio), and the Voices of Light Community where the best hosts in the country are gathered as one, with a vision of putting value to being a professional host and emcee. Voices of Light or VOL is a peer group that supports the industry, coming up with initiatives to put color on grey areas between hosts as talents and their clients and co-suppliers.
