“World’s First Selfie Museum” Is in the Philippines

After two of our cities (Makati and Pasig) in Metro Manila were named the “Selfie Capitals in the World”, the Philippines is now said to have the “World’s First Selfie Museum”, as Time Magazine calls it.

Art in Island is an interactive art museum located in Cubao, Quezon City that encourages its visitors to be part of art exhibits by having countless photo opportunities with them. Visitors appear to be integrated in different art exhibits in the said gallery.

Unlike in other museums where bringing of cameras, taking photos, and touching of exhibit items are not allowed; all of these are highly encouraged in Art in Island.

This two-storey museum provides 3,800sqm of space for art that can be the background of the photos you take inside.

According to Art in Island CEO Yun Jae Kyoung, who hails from South Korean, they chose Manila as their location for this 3D art museum due to Filipinos’ great love affair with taking selfies and sharing them on social media. He mentioned, ”We chose the Philippines because Pinoys like art [and] taking pictures.”

Check out below some of the photos we have taken from Art in Island.
