Work-Out Music: 5 Work-Out Songs that Keep Me Jolly!

Since I gained a lot of weight after graduating from college, I’ve been on a personal journey to healthy living and attaining a two-piece-bikini-worthy body. I bet a lot can relate to this: finding a sport or any form of exercise is a challenge in itself. Plus sticking to it and making it a fun experience is another whole story! Since stress-levels at work can reach a sky-high, it is recommended that we eat healthy and exercise as much as we can.

Studies have proven that exercise–whatever form it is–can increase your happy hormones aka endorphins. Now, more studies also say that having music is a distraction–a good distraction from pain! Why so? According to the study entitled “Effects of music tempo upon sub-maximal cycling performance,” our bodies first respond to beat, even before your mind joins in. Your heart rate and breathing increase and the resulting biochemical reactions join with the music to exhilarate and motivate you to move even faster.

Below is my personal top 5 songs that keep me going, whether it may be when running or in cycling class!

5. All Hands on Deck – Tinashe

A song with a thick bass-line and “club-friendly” beat, its theme is about retaining confidence. This is a good warm up song.

4. Survivor – Destiny’s Child

The song is about surviving any situation. “You thought that I’d be weak without you, but I’m stronger!” WHADUP?! Say what?! Hashtag Empowerment!

3. Beat It – Michael Jackson

Now that our heart beat is up, go ahead and “showin’ how funky and strong is your fight!” Just beat it!

2. You Make My Dreams – Daryl Hall and John Oats

A song that symbolizes the pure expression of joy, it is apt to play this one during the 80% into your workout as your adrenaline is kicking in.

1. Pony – Ginuwine

A sensual song full of vibrating rhythm and lots of trebly percussion, this is to help us cool down and enjoy the endorphins we have gained.

Since our bodies used the calories for repairing glycogen storage and recovery for muscle proteins, it is recommended that we eat snacks that lean towards the healthier option. As a fellow go-getter myself, why not try snacks such as the Jollibee Tuna Pie? It is the perfect partner to fun workouts such as high-intensity interval training (HIIT)! Indoor cycling, also called ‘spinning’, is one of today’s trendiest workouts that utilizes high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on a stationary bike.
