I first heard about Wong Fu Productions last year after they released their video, STRANGERS AGAIN on YouTube. These talented producers/directors really got my attention and I started watching several of their videos and immediately became a fan! I found their work to be so simple and yet so perfect –if you know what I mean.

Wong Fu Manila Concert!…. Wong Fu? WHO?

Wong Fu Productions is a group of three guys namely Wesley Chan, Ted Fu and Philip Wang who have dedicated their time and efforts to editing, producing and creating videos on YouTube.

As part of their Southeast tour, the guys of Wong Fu productions came to visit the Philippines last March 1, 2012 and When In Manila got to have an exclusive interview with them…well, at least 2/3 of Wong Fu! Ted was unfortunately unable to make it because of personal reasons. Philip and Wesley though were really nice and very down to earth! They looked nervous and shy for our interview, especially Wesley! Prior to the our interview backstage, the guys also guested on the WAKE UP SHOW with my brother, DJ Vince and DJ Tracy. They unfortunately only had a very short segment because they got lost on the way to the station. From Music Museum (Ortigas), they were supposed to go to PARAGON PLAZA near Boni MRT. Unfortunately, the cab driver took them to HARRISON PLAZA instead! Yikes!!! It was really really really REALLY great to have Wong Fu Productions in Manila and I hope they visit us more often too! WONG FU MANILA CONCERT AGAIN SOON!?? PLEASSSEEE… 🙂

This was the first interview I’ve ever done and I was nervous as well. I just wish we could’ve had better lighting or a mic even so we could understand their words more. Still, the guys were wonderful! Anyway, check out the video below for the exclusive When In Manila interview!

Wong Fu Manila Show at the Music Museum!

We only had a short time for the interview because the Wong Fu Manila concert was coming up in a few minutes. So off we were to watch the Wong Fu Manila show!! whooo!!!!

The “Wong Fu Manila” concert tour was held at the Music Museum in Greenhills last March 1, and was a few seats short of a full house! It was amazing to see how these Wong Fu Productions, a simple bunch of guys, who aren’t even singing or dancing, were able to follow their dreams and show it to the world.. and generating this number of fans! I looked around and saw all the number one fans screaming in excitement.

Finally at exactly 7:30pm, the lights went off and the crowd went wild – not kidding! I’ve rarely seen audience members show this much excitement! It was as if everyone..(especially the girls but there were guys too) was ready to race forward in to grab a piece of hair or clothing from Wong Fu Productions! haha The Wong Fu Manila show finally kicked off!

As soon as the crowd calmed down, the guys started talking about themselves and sharing how Wong Fu came to be.

There was really nothing special about them. Just a couple of regular guys who did what it takes to follow their dream… and that’s what made me love them even more. They talked about anything under the sun… the fun they experience, the people they met and the challenges they had to face. They even had a short “bromance” moment where they jokingly re-enacted how they met. Philip and Wesley shared how their first investment as a group was a video camera… it was kind of similar to a couple getting their first puppy together. They then started taking short videos and posting it just for the sake of it. Never did they imagine that they’d get this big!

Later on in the show, Philip shared a little about the videos they make. Some were like a tricycle which was really low budget and simple, others were like a jeepney which was somewhere in the middle, still low budget but okay…and still others were like a high end air-conditioned bus! Not too expensive but somehow a higher budget is needed. Their point was, you don’t need such a high budget to make a good and decent film! You just need to be creative. They shared how they collaborated with different artists in making their videos. They shared about ISA (International Secret Agents), a group of talented Asian people who all sing, dance, and even create movies together such as Wong Fu Productions, Kev Jumba, Ryan Higga, David Choi and more! They talked about the amount of hard work and dedication they put into their work and yet they still have lots of fun. Basically, we got to know the guys behind Wong Fu Productions even more! I really really hope I see these guys (or maybe the entire ISA) back in Manila again soon!

After sharing some of their stories, they exited the stage and showed the audience members a couple of videos.

The final part of the show was a quick question and answer from the audience members. The two guys of Wong Fu Productions were really nice and answered every single question in a very down-to-earth and casual way. There’s just something about them!

The show soon came to an end as there was still a MEET and GREET portion for all those who bought the VIP tickets. I really hope the guys come back soon… and hopefully by then, the ultimate trio would be complete! Wong Fu for Life!!
