Winter is coming? Benguet experiences a cool and ‘icy’ summer

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) declared the start of the dry season on March 20.

It was the time when the northeast monsoon was terminated, marking the beginning of the summer season.

The weather bureau said that from that date forward, we can expect warmer temperatures in most parts of the country.

So far, this has been true even in Metro Manila since we’ve been experiencing the heat as of late.

However, it’s a different story up north.

In Benguet, it seems like winter is coming.

A resident of and tour guide in Benguet, Jerilyn W. Guiniawan, shared photos of their “frozen” backyard in Tangbao, Bokod, Benguet. The photos were taken on April 23 in Tangbao, Ekip, Bokod, Benguet (Mt. Purgatory).

Guiniawan told WhenInManila.com that although hailstorm is an annual occurrence in their area, this is the first time they experienced hail this huge.

“Every year pero ngayon lang kadami at kalaki,” she said.

When asked how is their area now that most places are under lockdown, Guiniawan replied, “It’s good. We move [with out] a normal life but in our barangay, they apply and follow the rules about the ECQ.”

“Kung tatagal itong ECQ, sana ma-involve kami sa updates and monitoring kasi malayo [kami] sa kalsada,” she added.

She also posted a video of the hailstorm. Watch it below.
