When in Manila and craving for buffalo wings, trust me, there’s only one place for it and that, ladies and gentlemen, is Wingman at The Collective, Makati. It’s one of those restaurants that are hidden away but is definitely worth the drive as the wide array of buffalo wings, burgers and other dishes are sure to make you crave for more, no matter how full you are.

My friends and I arrived on a Friday night at around 9 pm, and man, the place was packed! Thank goodness we had a reserved table though. Mike Choo, co-owner of Wingman, who was joining us for dinner was stuck in traffic but was nice enough to order ahead for us, and this is what we got:

Unfortunately, we got off to a bad start with this as the drink was a frozen block of Margarita. When I tried pouring it, the whole thing came out and spilled onto our table, suffice to say, it was a mess. What made it worse was how slow it took the waitresses to clean up the mess. I understand that with a crowded restaurant, service may be slower than usual, however, I was irritated because I saw the waitress behind the counter giggling with the kitchen staff. I mean… SERIOUSLY?! Anyways, Mike arrived and was kind enough to clean up most of the mess himself, finally, the waitresses came to help.

After the whole Margarita halabaloo, the food was finally served. Mike ordered 4 flavors of wings for us: Garlic Parmesan (MY FAVORITE!!!), Buffalo Classic (medium), Honey Garlic, and Mango Barbecue. I kid you not when I say they are to die for! The wings weren’t puny, were juicy inside and are one of those dishes that you wouldn’t mind eating for the rest of your life if you were stuck on a deserted island. Mike takes pride in the fact that all the sauces for his wings are made fresh daily and that they serve dishes made up of top-of-the-line ingredients. For example, the bleu cheese used for their bleu cheese dip is imported all the way from Denmark.

Next up, we had burgers made up of beef patties that are not only freshly grinded on a daliy basis on site but are also grilled and served on a toasted custom sesame bun with hand-cut fries, onion rings or side salad. First off, we had the The Cowboy Burger (Php230) topped with bacon, caramelized onions, and lots of smoked hickory barbeque sauce. Next, we had the Wingman Burger (Php230) a Wingman creation with your choice of spicy buffalo sauce and topped with rich blue cheese. The Classic Cheeseburger (Php220) had ketchup, mustard, mayo, topped with a slice of American cheese and kosher dill pickle slices. Lastly, we had the Chimichurri Burger (Php210) topped with their homemade chimichurri sauce: a blend of garlic, parsley, vinegar, and chili topped with tomato and crisp red onion.

Quesadillas (Php 200) Crisp cast-iron skilleted flour tortillas loaded with three cheeses, tomatoes and their own pomodoro sauce, comes with fire roasted salsa and sour cream. For an additional Php60, you can have it stuffed with either grilled chicken or pulled pork, I personally liked it as it was.

Deep-Fried Snickers Bar (Php220) Hand battered snickers bar, fried golden brown with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream and Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Next to the buffalo wings, this was hands down my favorite part of the meal! I’d gladly eat this all day, every day!

My friends, Sarah and Camille, and I were stuffed by the end of the meal and plan on going back the next time we can! There wasn’t a single buffalo wing left and all the other dishes were emptied! Yup, the food was that good! So, when in Manila and craving for buffalo wings, trust me, there’s only one place for it and that, ladies and gentlemen, is Wingman at The Collective, Makati. Though hidden away, it is definitely worth the drive as the wide array of buffalo wings, burgers and other dishes are sure to make you crave for more, no matter how full you are.
