Ariel from The Little Mermaid is beautiful, innocent, and can sing. The mermaids from The Lure are beautiful and can sing, but they’re not quite as innocent. In this Polish movie, they’re cannibals. Or half-cannibals since they’re half-human?

The Lure follows Silver and Golden, two mermaids who follow a rock band they meet on a beach in Poland. They start work at a nightclub as strippers, where Silver falls in love with the band’s guitarist, while Golden hungers for human flesh.
The film is director Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s debut. It won Special Jury Award for Unique Vision and Design at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and Best Film at the 2016 Fantasporto film festival.
It will open in theaters on February 1.
