Aladdin

One of the most anticipated films is the live-action adaption of Aladdin, a remake of the Disney classic many of us grew up with. One of the great things about the film is how it is championing diversity by casting non-white actors for the leading roles. The first teaser has been released and we can’t deal!

Watch the Aladdin teaser below:

Aladdin tells the story of a street urchin named Aladdin who discovers a magic lamp that releases a genie that will grant him three wishes.

After a worldwide call for the roles, Egyptian-born Mena Massoud was cast as the titular character while Naomi Scott, who has Indian and Ugandan ancestry, will take on the role of Jasmine.

They will be joined by Will Smith as the Genie, Marwan Kenzari (Tunisian-Dutch) as Jafar, Numan Acar (Turkish-born) as Jafar’s right-hand man Hakim, Navid Negahban (Iranian-American) as the Sultan, and Nasim Pedrad (Iranian-American) as Jasmine’s handmaiden Dalia.

The live-action Aladdin will be released on May 24, 2019.
