WATCH Lea Salonga Performs Solo From New Broadway Show Allegiance

 

Lea Salonga is one of theater’s darlings. After all, she played the lead role of Kim in Miss Saigon in Broadway and the West End, both Eponine and Fantine in Les Miserables for Broadway, and has won an Olivier, a Tony, a Drama Desk Award,  an Outer Critics Award and a Theatre World award, some of the biggest recognitions one can receive in theater.

And now, Salonga is back on Broadway for Allegiance, a musical based on actor George Takei’s experiences, and follows two siblings who choose different paths to protect their family during World War II.

Allegiance premiered in 2012, when Salonga, Takei, and Telly Leung performed at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego in 2012. The musical officially opened on November 8.

Takei has released a sneak peek of Salonga performing “Higher”, a solo from the musical, and she is awesome:
