WATCH: Genius One-Shot Commercial is Very Impressive

In this modern age with technology and innovation at our disposal, advertisements have been the best they have yet been. We’ve seen TV ads that made us cry, moved us, inspired us, or at least made us feel something. And that is the mark of true great work. Remember that German Christmas TV ad that was so tear-jerking? Or those popular Thai ads we keep seeing online because it seems the Thai are so good at pulling at your heartstrings? Well, this one won’t make you grab for a tissue, but it’s just as impressive and moving as the rest.

It’s the Sunday Times’ Icons commercial, which was shot to include no cuts at all. Just one continuous reel, with only the background, props, and lights moving to give each sequence the impact it needs. The ad communicates a fine mixture of the old and the new, conveying first a traditional scene and then later translating it into modern perception.
