In a time when everything is casual, there’s a beauty in formality and the old world. So it was a surprise when Dominique Cojuangco, daughter of Gretchen Barretto and businessman Tonyboy Cojuangco, was invited to Le Bal des Debutantes, one of the world’s most exclusive balls that celebrates young women from famous families.

Cojuangco was the fifth Filipina to attend, and she shared a video of her experiences during the swanky ball.

In the video, she is seen fitting her Vivienne Westwood gown, attending shoots and dance practices, and bonding with her fellow debutantes. She said of her experience, “It was one of the most refreshing experiences,” she added. “I went to the ball hoping to leave with a handful of new friends. However, I found genuine friendships in every single one of the girls.”

Le Bal is held annually in November in Paris, where 20 to 25 girls from around the world are brought together to celebrate the French way of life and to support charities. From 2009 to 2014, it supported education for young girls, while in 2015, it supported healthcare for adolescent mothers.

Since its creation in 1992, it invites women from famous families that support arts, politics, business, and other endeavors. It selects girls based on their looks, brains, personality, accomplishments, and lineage.
