As an anime fan, I was overjoyed to hear that there will be a live-action movie of the Blade of the Immortal, which is about a Samurai cursed with eternal life. He must kill 1,000 evil men to regain his mortality. In his journey, he meets a young girl, Rin, who hires him to help her take revenge on the swordsmen who slaughtered her family.
I was also overjoyed to find out that it will star Takuya Kimura, whose Jdoramas and movies I follow. He just happens to be one of Japan’s most famous actors.
Directed by Takashi Miike, a director who is notorious for extremely violent movies, the movie promises lots of choreographed sword fights and lots of gore. Blade of the Immortal is Takashi’s 100th movie.
Oh, my. There sure were lots of outlandish weapons and quite a number of dismemberments.
The Blade of the Immortal premiered in Japan on April 29. It will open in American theaters on November 3.
I hope it will also be shown here.
