I was sitting in an airport lounge waiting for my (as usual, delayed) flight back to Manila when I first saw this video.
The video was just on loop on one of the big-screened TVs in Bacolod-Silay International Airport. I was caught by the video despite it being on mute and just looping almost infinitely.
The video is the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) and Department of Finance’s newest campaign about paying taxes and showing where our taxes go.
When I first heard of the background song on the said video, after a bit of searching on YouTube and with Reddit’s help, I found it quite striking. I was a bit teary-eyed.
Yes, as Filipino citizens, it is our duty to pay our taxes right. In effect, we all hope that the taxes we pay really go to where they are intended to be and not to the pockets of corrupt government officials. I would like to believe that there’s still hope for this.
