WATCH: Aged man leads crowd during UAAP game

Sports games brings out the best in many fans – especially if the game is at its peak!

One fan and Twitter user Ron Tolentino was one of the thousands that watched the recent UAAP Final Four Women’s Volleyball game last Saturday, where second and third seeder De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas [respectively] fought for a slot in the upcoming finals. He witnessed an aged man, who was supporting the DLSU Lady Spikers, leading the crowd of green pointing in different directions in response to his call. He took a 12 second video of the man in action.

The man would yell “diretso” (straight) and the crowd would respond “La Salle!”.

Animo La Salle lolo

WHEN IN MANILA has reached out to Ron for further details.

Everytime there’s a time out, he will encourage the Lasallian crowd to cheer. Usually during timeout, people will take time to rest for a bit from cheering. People will just start cheering when the game resumes. But this gentleman never stops cheering. It’s as if he is an energy bunny… an energy daddy. The crowd will just applause after his “Derecho La Salle” chant. But it became contagious and the crowd started to respond whenever he starts to cheer. He even overpowered the Animo Squad of La Salle. Despite his age, his unwavering support for the team and support didn’t hamper him to pump up the spirit of the Lasallian crowd.

Ron admits that he was concerned for the man’s health.

“Sabi ko sa kasama ko, ‘baka atakihin ng asthma si lolo.’ (I told my companion, ‘grandpa might get an asthma attack.’ ) At first I just ignored him (the cheering man). But his cheering didn’t stop. A sports administrator from La Salle also noticed [not only] his energy and passion to cheer for the team, but also [his power] to encourage the crowd. Until the end he kept on cheering.”
