Today, March 8, is International Women’s Day.
In lieu with this, the vice president of the country, who is also a woman, honors one of the most promising Filipino woman in science.
VP Leni Robredo shared a story about astrophysicist Reina Reyes.
It was in 2010 that Dr. Reinabelle Reyes became known as ‘the Filipina who proved Einstein right’ with her work on his Theory of Relativity. To date, she is a part-time lecturer in Ateneo de Manila University, while attending to numerous other consulting commitments across the country, both for private firms and government agencies, like the Department of Science and Technology.
Reina to her friends, she remains very humble despite her accomplishments in both astrophysics and data analytics. While her name grows bigger in the scientific community within and outside the country, Reina seeks first to find answers, not for her own personal gain and not even fame. Her dedication to our country’s ‘practical and academic interest’ remains a priority. And a woman of science like Reina knows no boundaries.#LakasNgKababaihan
