In this time of enhanced community quarantine, one of the major concerns of having to self-isolate is getting enough food supply.
With work stopped as well, individuals who live from paycheck to paycheck and those in low-income communities are at risk of suffering from hunger and malnutrition as everyone fights the further spread of the new coronavirus.
Therefore, local government units (LGUs) bear the responsibility of providing food packs, especially to low-income areas.
While other municipalities or cities receive food packs containing rice, instant noodles, and canned goods, one area is bringing the game to the next level.
In the province of Romblon, specifically in Odiongan, the local government is providing healthy relief goods. Food packs here contain vegetables, which everyone needs to stay healthy as we fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Sana ganito gawin ng ibang LGUs or barangay para kumita rin mga magsasaka at healthy pa if vegetable ang ibibigay kaysa noodles,” Clariza San Felipe wrote on Facebook. She shared photos of the healthy relief packs as well.
(Rough translation: I hope other LGUs also do this so that farmers can earn and this is healthier that noodles.)
“Binibili ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Odiongan ang mga gulay ng mga magsasaka sa bayan para isama sa mga ipinamimigay na relief goods sa mga apektado ng enhanced community quarantine,” she added.
(Rough translation: The local government of Odiongan buys vegetables from farmers to include in the relief goods that they will be distributing to those affected by the enhanced community quarantine.)
