URGENT: Frantic Husband Begs for Blood Type O+ Donation for Wife Diagnosed with Leukemia

We just received an urgent request to share a call for blood donation. A frantic husband is begging for donors of blood type O+ for his wife who was diagnosed with acute myeloid Leukemia. She needs daily transfusion within the next seven days. As of the time of writing, no blood of this type is available in the blood banks.

The basic requirements for blood donors are:

  • Must be in good health
  • No cough and/or colds for at least two weeks before donation
  • Must be 110 pounds (50kgs) and above
  • Must be 18 years old (for 16-17 years, parental written consent is needed)
  • No alcohol intake within 24 hours
  • No smoking within three hours
  • Blood pressure of at least 90/60 MMHG and not exceeding 140/90 MMHG
  • With enough rest and at least 6-8 hours sleep
  • No operation (minor or major, dental surgery, tattoo and body piercing for the past 12 months; no dental extraction for the past one month
  • Three months interval from the last blood donation
  • No history of cancer (of any type) and diabetes
  • No medication intake within 24 hours (except vitamins); at least two weeks after last antibiotic intake
  • No history of illicit drug usage
  • No history of hepatitis (of any type), or any sexually transmitted disease
  • For female donors: no menstrual period (at least one week after the last day of menstrual period and not expecting to have period within the week)
  • No sexual contact with high-risk individuals
  • No rice meal, fatty/fried/oily food two hours before donation; light meal is advised (fruits, biscuit, or bread)
  • Increase water intake
