The battle between the UP Lady maroons and the Ateneo Lady Spikers turned out to be a David-vs-Goliath match as the UP lady maroons make an incredible upset win against the two-time defending champions.
The lady Maroons — composed mostly of rookies – won four sets: 19-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-22, against Ateneo, ending a 17-game head-to-head losing streak to Ateneo and bagging a solid third spot with a 5-3 win-loss record.
Lady maroon’s rookie player Isa Molde was the star of the game, who garnered 15 points to lead the lady maroons through the evening. She was followed by another rookie, Diana Carlos, with 12 points.
