Filipinos sure do love inumans, and we know how to turn it into an art form. Need proof? Two homegrown bars are included in Drinks International’s first-ever Asia’s 50 Best Bars list.
The bars that received nods from experts are ABV and The Curator, both of which are located in Makati.

ABV, or Alcohol by Volume, ranked 14th on the list. The list describes it as “a Prohibition-style speakeasy with a copper bar top in a brick and wood space.”
It adds:
Drinks hover around classics and signature twists created by the staff, and ABV also has the largest absinthe collection in town – more than 30 bottles, from classic French-style absinthe pours to an absinthe fountain.

Meanwhile, The Curator was ranked 16th, and was described as a place that “really knows its cocktails – as in really, really knows its cocktails.”
It also says:
With reverence to the origins of each ingredient – from coffee beans to homemade bitters to small-batch spirits – all the drinks are carefully created with proper technique, churning out some of the most profound flavour profiles in the country to date.
Hamish Smith, who edited Asia’s 50 Best Bars, said that they polled 154 people who are well-versed and -traveled in the Asian bar industry.
He added:
To qualify to vote, Academy members must travel regularly within Asia and must fall into one of the following: high-level bartenders, bar consultants, brand ambassadors, and journalists.
We choose not to define what a ‘best bar’ is – it’s subjective. So rather than influencing the vote with a list of criteria, we want uninfluenced professional opinions on what the best might be.
