TRAVEL: This Mountain in Mindoro Is Tough to Climb but the View from Top is EXTRAORDINARY!

With a height of 2,586 metres (8,484 ft), Mount Halcon or Monte Halcon in Mindoro is the 18th highest peak in the Philippines. Although not in the top ten of the highest peaks in the country, many mountaineers say that it is one of the toughest to climb. Its steep slopes has earned it that reputation. Apparently, it can even take up to four days to reach its summit.

Although it is one of the most challenging peaks to conquer, many mountaineers dream of reaching its peak. Aside from proving their capabilities as mountaineers, I heard the view from the top is really extraordinary.

To show you this, we gathered photos on Instagram from some of the most courageous of mountaineers who braved the challenging trek to reach Mount Halcon’s summit.

How high can you go?!

Reaching Mount Halcon’s summit is worth the celebration

In adherence to a municipal ordinance, Mount Halcon is open to mountaineers from February to May only. This is to conserve the forest.

In order to climb, there is a need to secure a hiking permit. To get a permit, the climber needs to submit a medical certificate declaring good health, a basic mountaineering course certificate, and a valid ID.

Going to Mount Halcon when in Mindoro:

There is a terminal beside Calapan Public Market where you can take a ride to the town of Baco. Travel time takes a little less than an hour. Go to the Baco Tourism Office at the municipal hall to get a permit. Lastly, you need to register at the local police station.
