Toycon 2014 Highlights and 4 Reasons Why You Should Attend Conventions
Fellow geeks! This is it! Toycon 2014: The 13th Philippines Hobbies, Toys and Collectibles convention.
This is only the 2nd convention I’ve ever attended in my whole life. And to those who have never experienced attending conventions..
Here are 4 reasons why you should do so in the future:
Toycon 2014 Highlights and 4 Reasons Why You Should Attend Conventions
1. Merchandise
There is a lot of fandom merchandise on sale at conventions. From t-shirts to button pins – name it, they’ve got it. Conventions are also where online sellers get the chance to do meet ups with their clients and even set up their own booths! And for Toycon 2014, there were so many toys and collectibles!

2. Cosplay
At conventions, you will see a lot of people holding their SLR cameras and dashing towards their favorite characters to ask for pictures with them. This is something I really look forward to because it’s always a surprise! You’ll never know who you’ll catch at conventions because there are just so many characters to see, whether they’re from comic books, movies, anime, etc.! Just keep your eyes peeled! You’ll never know – your favorite character might just be around the corner!
3. Meeting some of your favorite icons
At conventions, they always invite celebrity cosplayers or voice actors and actresses to grace the event. This is the chance to see them up close! If you’re lucky, you might even get to snag an autograph or photo with them!
4. Meeting friends who have the same interests as you
Aside from all of the awesome things listed above, conventions are places where you can find fellow geeks and nerds who love the same things as you! Smile and be friendly. You’ll never know – some of these people might end up become your friends for life!
For those people who missed this year’s Toycon! Here are some of the weekend’s highlights:
The Rurouni Kenshin Costume Display
I never watched this, but my friends are fans, so we decided to drop by the booth. The costumes displated were original costumes from the film Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno!
The beautiful costumes in the Rurouni Kenshin booth!
I also met one of the most talented cosplayers, Jin Joson! I love her work. I just had to take a picture with Jin, as well as the rest of the Rurouni Kenshin cosplayers at the booth.

The Toys & Collectibles display
This is Toycon, after all. I just marveled at all of the action figures and figurines on display! They were just so beautiful.
There was a whole room filled with Toys & Collectibles!
Here are some of my personal favorites:
These are so beautiful. I stared at the display for a few minutes admiring all of the details!
I started gushing about Pacific Rim when I saw these!
Cute cosplays
Yes, kids cosplay, too! Some of them cosplayed with their families, which I found really adorable.
The kid’s family wore Hulk shirts! So cool!
Batman’s 75th Year anniversary
A lot of people cosplayed Batman this year to celebrate the 75 years of Batman! Time flies by so fast.

Alodia Gosiengfiao in Toycon 2014
It’s no big secret that Alodia has a huge fanbase. By the time I got to her booth, though, I only got to catch a glimpse of her taking photos with her fans in the Alodia booth.
I can’t wait for next year’s Toycon! I had a blast.
But don’t worry! If you missed the annual Toycon, you still have the Christmas Toy Fair to catch! And of course, Toycon 2015!
