Top 5 Highlights of the Alliance Send-Off

Top 5 Highlights of the Alliance Send-Off

Henry Lee Irwin theater was once again filled to the brim with excited dance fans for yet another fundraiser for a team representing the country in the World Hip Hop Dance Championships.

This time around it was for another first timer in the competition: Alliance. Although this team is new (less than a year old!), they proved that they are anything but inexperienced!

Alliance is competing in the Varsity division (18 years old and below), and although only eight members are going to Vegas, they’re backed up by 30 plus other ‘allies’ that make up the entire group!  No doubt about it, Alliance put together an exciting and entertaining concert: the Alliance Send-Off.

Top 5 Highlights of the Alliance Send-Off

1. Party people

Alliance opened with an unforgettable, fun and energetic piece! With their colorful costumes, funky  electronic dance music and upbeat choreography, Alliance started off the concert with everyone dancing on their seats!

2. Adorable love story

A refreshing part of the concert was when Alliance veered away from hard core hip hop and went with a more mellow routine. They incorporated lyrical hip hop and contemporary style dance to present the classic story of sawi boy meets sawi girl and they fall in love, suddenly can’t be together, and in the end prove that love still conquers all. This preppy piece was all about highlighting the dancers’ emotions and the way they connected with each other.

3. All style group routine

As with every dance concert, there’s a segment where the team proudly shows off their dancers’ respective fortes in a single all-styles routine! Alliance’s version of this was definitely a highlight of the concert: they showed off their skills from femme to krump, power to LA, and more. Breaking out into smaller groups gave each dancer the chance to show off their individual strengths, as well. Alliance is full of strong dancers!

4. Guest performers

Guest performers are also present in most dance concerts! Instead of just focusing on the team, they let other groups take the stage, as well! The guests were equally strong and enjoyable and there was never a dull moment during the Alliance Send-Off! Their list of guests included high school teams: CSA Dance Troupe and Miriam College Sayawatha, college teams: Juvenile from UST, La Salle Dance Company-Street, APC Dance Company and UA&P Squadra, and defending champs of the World Supremacy Battlegrounds in Australia: INDK.

5. The compet piece

Of course, the real reason why the Alliance Send-Off was organized to begin with, and the reason why so many people came out to support them, was for the Varsity team’s chance to head to Vegas! This was the biggest highlight of the show: getting a taste of what the competition will be like through their performance. These eight teenagers showed everyone what they’ll be bringing to the World stage next month: all the right moves in a powerful routine!
