If you take your bike to and from places of work on a regular basis then this proposed bill is something that will motivate you more to pedal to work. If not, then this might persuade you to start biking.

An annual tax deduction of P2,500 is being considered according to a bill filed at the House of Representatives.

House Bill (HB) 263 aims to create the Bike Transport Action Plan that will integrate the environment-friendly bicycle lanes into the country’s transportation system.

The bill is filed by Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte.

According to the news on Manila Bulletin, Rep. Villafuerte said, “The increasing use of motorized transport not only leads to road congestion but also to a corresponding increased demand for parking facilities. On the other hand, cycling is far more economical both in terms of direct user costs and public infrastructure costs.”

The annual tax deduction for employees who regularly use bicycles as a mode of transportation is something they hope to entice more to pedal to work.

Aside from this, the bill also aims to increase participation in the annual World Car-Free Day.

This is done every second Sunday of September.

Moreover, the bill pushes for National Car-Free Day every second Sunday of April to promote the use of bikes.

Are you a biker to and from work? What do you think of this proposed bill?
