The Witness: Movie Review Starring Gwen Zamora in Philippine Cinemas

When in Manila, one of the most important things that we should do as Filipinos is support Filipino talent. As such, we really should take a break from all of the Hollywood hullabaloo and focus on what the local scene has to offer every now and then.

Now, I know that “The Hunger Games” is hard to steer clear of, what with all the hype and the awesomeness that goes along with it, but you really should stop and take a look at what else is showing the next time you are at the cinemas. Have you checked out “The Witness” yet, for instance?

In a nutshell, “The Witness” revolves around a young woman named Angel whose entire family gets killed on the same night. After this traumatic incident, she starts getting haunted by inexplicable images and dreams and decides to uncover the mystery behind this untimely tragedy.

Overall “The Witness” is incredibly intense in terms of gore and cringe-worthy moments. It is also incredibly suspenseful and gripping right from the very first scene – a great choice for those who loved movies like “The Machinist” and “Disturbia”.

The direction by Muhammad Yusuf is incredible, as well, and the actors are top-notch. Although the movie consists mostly of Indonesian actors, there is one Filipina in the roster – and she just happens to be the one who really stands out the most: Gwen Zamora.

Gwen Zamora will grab your attention from the first minute you set eyes on her. She is absolutely gorgeous, after all. What you will realize after the first few minutes, though, is that she is not all about looks. She can really act. And she makes this especially evident during the first half hour, which is emotionally draining for the entire audience – what more for the lead actress herself?

You might have noticed earlier on that I compared “The Witness” to other suspenseful Hollywood movies out there. Well, I did this for good reason. “The Witness” isn’t like any other Filipino movie that I have watched before. It has more of a Hollywood look and feel to it in terms of plot, execution and the acting. It is unlike anything I have ever seen in Filipino cinema before, to be honest, and it is well worth the money. Here is a sneak peek of what you can expect from “The Witness”:
