We’re a nation that loves titles, awards, and recognition. Social media capital and selfie capital of the world? That’s us. The largest medical mission? We did it. The largest crocodile in captivity? We had it (until it passed away). If there’s anything that’s the biggest, longest, thinnest, fattest, shortest, or tallest, we have it somewhere in our 7,107 islands.

We have a new title to add to our belt (probably the longest ever). Cebu just won the record for having the biggest Zumba class ever! We stole the title from India, who had 6,600 participants. For ours, the Zumba Instructors Network (ZIN) Cebu organized a whopping 8,232 people join the zumba class.

According to Cebu mayor Michael Rama, the event was held to motivate citizens to lead a healthier lifestyle. And what could be a greater motivator than to be part of the Guinness Book of World Records? Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to classroom rehabilitation programs for schools in Northern Cebu.

Aside from holding the largest zumba class ever recorded, the group also attempted to break the largest pink ribbon foundation. The record belongs to India, but the Philippines could not beat India’s record of 6,847 people. Our group had 6,611 people.

But hey, we should have another world record for having the most world records!
