The Kris Aquino – President Duterte Interview Does Not Push Through

It would have made for great television: an exclusive one-on-one interview between the Queen of All Media (with the gift of gab) Kris Aquino and the vocal and controversial president Rodrigo Duterte. Imagine the banter! Imagine the jokes! Imagine the questions!

Alas, it can only happen in our dreams as the president cancelled the interview.

The interview was supposed to happen on Friday at a town hall session in Davao City, but the president did not show up, with his camp saying that he has a migraine.

The town hall session still pushed through, with Aquino saying, “Minsan ang mga first date hindi natutuloy” (“Sometimes first dates don’t push through”).

She added, “President Duterte, give me a chance… Gusto ko rin kayo makilala” (“President Duterte, give me a chance… I also want to get to know you”).

This will be the talk show host’s return to television after taking a break in March. This was followed by a surprise announcement that she will be leaving ABS-CBN, a network she has worked with for 20 years. She also announced that she will be working with APT Entertainment, Inc., a subsidiary of TAPE Inc., which produces Eat Bulaga! on ABS-CBN’s rival network GMA.

However, Rappler noted that the president attended the launch of Pilipinong May Puso Foundation, Incorporated at the Waterfront Insular Hotel, also in Davao City. There, he apologized for being late because he came from the mountains and had a hard time going down because of the rain. This event was hours after the scheduled interview with Aquino, but Duterte’s camp did not mention a mountain trip to the interview’s organizers.

In the same event, he acknowledged that he missed the town hall session because of his migraine.

The Pilipinong May Puso Foundation was created to honor the memory of his mother, Soledad “Nanay Soleng” Duterte, a noted philanthropist.
