It has been 13 years since The Incredibles premiered and basically changed our childhoods. It has also been more than a decade since we’ve waited for a sequel to the story of the incredible superhero family. And now, it’s finally happening.
Just this week, a release date for The Incredibles 2 has finally been announced! It’s set to premiere in theaters on June 15, 2018.
With the D23 Expo (the official Disney Channel Fan Club expo) just happening, we’ve got a lot of details on the upcoming super-sequel. And here’s what we know so far.
First off, we’re picking up right where the first movie ended, meaning that Jack-Jack is technically still a baby. And he indeed has basically every super power you could think of. This was first confirmed in a short film that was included in the extended edition of The Incredibles.
In the first footage of the sequel, which was released at the D23 Expo, Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible, now a stay-at-home dad finally witnesses the baby’s powers and its aftermath–and now also realizes that his immense powers couldn’t be controlled.
This first footage also apparently showed that it’s going to be more of Elastigirl getting all the superhero action in the film. Mr. Incredible is at home watching the baby while Elastigirl is out there kicking bad guy butt–and we all know she won’t be leaving the “saving the world” to the men.
Director Brad Bird also confirmed that Elastigirl will indeed be the main character of The Incredibles 2.
So yes, we’ll definitely be seeing more of Jack-Jack’s many superpowers in the coming sequel–and more of Elastigirl being the badass superhero that she really is.
Another thing that we’ll be seeing more of in the second film is the “fashion designer of heroes” Edna Mode.
A short teaser was also released where supermodels and high-profile fashion designers talk about the fashion genius that is Edna Mode. So maybe we’ll be seeing more of her superhero-outfit designs? Or maybe we get to see more of her backstory?
Whatever it is, at least we’re sure that the iconic super-designer is going to be back for The Incredibles 2.
The Incredibles’ family friend Frozone is also set to be back for the sequel as shown by a photo posted by Samuel L. Jackson, the voice of Frozone, where he’s in the recording studio for The Incredibles.
Well, there you have it! The latest deets on The Incredibles 2. So, we’ll see you in theaters!
