The long wait is over, Delegates! In a few weeks, the University of Santo Tomas Model United Nations will be holding its 5th MUN on February 28 to March 2, 2018 in the campus of the oldest existing Catholic university in Asia.

The UST Asian Studies Society, as the official student organization of the University of Santo Tomas, has been conducting MUN conferences for the Thomasian community, participants from other schools, and even international delegates in the past five years. This year’s theme is Bringing Society Back to the Table: Engaging Robust Partners to Meet the Challenges of Evolving Global Problems. The UST MUN 2018 will tackle social issues and conflicts that are circulating in the world today.

Moreover, this 3-day simulation will further bestow a disciplinary understanding among delegations of member states, solving real issues while noting their policies and the perspectives of their assigned countries.

The UST MUN councils are narrowed into three sectors this year which are: Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), and the largest council General Assembly (GA). First, for ECOSOC, their respective topics will be Topic A: Reconstructing and Rebuilding the Loves of People in Crisis-stricken Areas through the Help of Non-Profit Partners and Topic B: Managing Food Security and Promoting Sustainable Agriculture. Next, for UNSC, their respective topics will be Topic A: Utilization and accountability of Private and Military Security Contractors (PMSC) in Peacekeeping and Topic B: Role of private sectors in national security, peace and conflict prevention. While for GA, their topics will be focused on Topic A: Inclusive Humanitarian Assistance in Response to Violence and Disaster Relief Amidst Climate Change, and Topic B: Tackling the issue and improving access to HIV care services and healthcare generally among the countries.

Join us as we embark on a wonderful life-changing journey that can help participants boost their confidence as future leaders of the world, and develop a strong sense of awareness, plus a great chance to expand one’s network. These are only some of the things that the delegates can achieve while they get inspired in changing the world while getting recognized by the Chair, one moderated caucus at a time. Delegates are expected to gain a deeper understanding of what is happening, especially the social issues that are referring their countries as concerned global citizens of today and the future.
